Sick

We have had colds off  and on in our house since the new year.  We get over one cold and catch a new one a few days later. It's mostly Emmeline and Charlie that are sick.  Sometimes I catch their colds, but Justin NEVER seems to get sick. 

Charlie caught the latest cold last Thursday.  It was a slight cough and a drippy nose for the first 2 days.  It turned into a terrible cough, a bad snotty nose, and a fever on Saturday and Sunday.  I had to teach sharing time in primary, so Justin stayed home with Charlie on Sunday. 

Charlie is usually such a happy baby, even when he is sick, but not this time.  All he wanted to do on Sunday was sit on our laps.  He was also having a terrible time staying asleep.  The fever broke and he was doing much better on Monday, but I still felt I should take him in to the doctor to be sure.

I am glad I did, because the cold got into his lungs.  They had us do a nebulizer treatment which seemed to help, so we are doing treatments 3 times a day for a week.  The treatments take about 10 to 15 minutes.  He doesn't like the mask (which is a fish face... so cute!) strapped to him, so I have to hold it just in front of his face.  We have been watching an episode of Elmo to help him sit still.  He does very well.

I feel so bad for poor little Charlie.  I hope this clears up quickly.  His birthday is in 2 weeks and I would hate for him to be so sick on his 1st birthday.  Luckily he already seemed to be doing much better by the time he woke up from his afternoon nap today.  I'll keep my fingers crossed!

Valentine's Day

Valentine's day was pretty low key for us this year.  Here are some of the highlights.

A little girl in our ward a church had a cute heart in her hair.  I just had to try it on Emme.

Funny Emme

Justin was completely free today for the first Saturday in a long time.  We decided to take the kids to Park City.  We had a lot of fun driving around Park City, eating out and checking out the outlet stores, but that wasn't the best part of the day.  The best part was hearing the things that came out of Emme's mouth.  She is the funniest little girl.  Here are some of the funny moments from today.

We were between Heber and Park City.  Emme excitedly said, "No Way!"  And pointed to something out the window.  I can't remember what it was, but it was so funny to hear coming from a little 2 year old.

We went to McDonald's for lunch.  Emme got a small beanie bear in her happy meal.  Justin was trying to help her pick a name for it.  He threw out a bunch of funny names like doggie and frog.  A couple minutes later Justin asked, "Where is froggie?"  Emme said, "I think he's dead."  What?!  Silly Emme.

We were driving at one point today.  The car was completely quiet.  Out of nowhere we hear Emme say, "Tilapiana," from the back seat.  Justin asked her what it was, but she had no idea.  (FYI: Tilapiana is Justin's company, and we have never heard her say it or talk about it before).

We were talking about how nice it was to have Justin home today while we were waiting for dinner.  We were talking about Justin going to work, and Emme said that he was a fireman and that he got to hold the hose and spray the water.

We made up a small plate of our food for Emme at dinner.  We always have a hard time getting her to eat her food at dinner time.  We asked her for the 100th time to eat her food.  While pushing her plate away she said, "I need a box for my food."  We rarely go out to dinner.  I don't know where she picks up these things!

Dinner seems to be the funniest part of the day.  We got fried ice cream for dessert.  We had 2 spoons and were sharing with Emme.  It took all the strength of my right arm to keep her from eating the ice cream from the plate with her mouth.  Justin got a picture picture with phone.

I promise this is the last story.  We drove from Heber to Provo around Emme and Charlie's bedtime tonight.  Emme stayed awake the whole time and talked to us.  We were talking about raccoons. (There were 2 lost baby raccoons at my mom's house last summer when we were visiting)  Justin asked Emme where we saw the raccoons.  Emme said they were at Grandma's house, we fed them cherries, and that they are gone now.  Justin asked what happened to them.  Emme said, "I ate them."  Justin asked, "What did they taste like?"  Emme said, "Like candy.  I ate one, and daddy ate the other one."  Seriously... where does she come up with these things?!

Valentine Cookies

Emmeline helped me make sugar cookies for Valentine's Day this week.  She did a really good job helping me cut out the cookies.  Emme is such a funny girl.  She loves to eat flour.  I went to get more dough to roll out and when I turned back around she had eaten most of the flour off the counter.  Here she is with flour all over her face.

That night after FHE we put Charlie to bed and Emme got to stay up and help us frost the cookies.  She loved to help and did a really good job too!  She put sprinkles on every cookie she frosted.

Here are the finished cookies.  Emme's are the cookies with frosting only in the middle and sprinkles all over :) We had a lot of fun and can't wait to do it again soon!

 

BYU Basketball

Justin got tickets for us to go to the BYU basketball game this last weekend.  Emme was really excited to go, but kind of shy once we got there.  She said she liked the sounds at the game.  She spent most of the time watching for Cosmo the mascot.  Charlie was really good as well.  It took Emme most of the game to get into the clapping and cheering, but Charlie got into it right away.  He would clap and bounce up and down on our laps when everyone cheered.  Justin was one proud daddy!  It was also nice that we won by 38 points.

Nativity #2

Part of the reason I posted about the first nativity is because Justin gave me another nativity for Christmas this year.  Justin was in Ghana for almost the whole month of September setting up some pilot fish ponds for his business.  His dad asked him to bring home a nativity set for a friend.  Justin showed me the set before he gave it to his dad.  It was amazing!  It was made out of wire and banana leaves.  Justin was upset that he didn't bring one home for us, but what could he do?

Justin is amazing.  He contacted some friends over in Ghana, and had them find and buy the nativity set for him.  He had a Ghanaian BYU student bring it to the states when she came back from Christmas break.  Justin is so thoughtful and amazing!  He gives the best gifts.  I can't wait to display it next year!

Nativity #1

 

Justin brought this nativity set home with him after his 7 week internship in 2010.  We put it up last Christmas and never took it down because I didn't have a good box for it.  I finally decided to take it down after Christmas and thought I would post some pictures of it.  The cloth under it is a table runner that is also from Ghana.

I LOVE this nativity set!  I love everything about it.  And if you were wondering... no, I still don't have a box for it.  It's new home is on my dresser.

Happy New Year 2012

Happy New Year!!!

We spent New Year's Eve at Justin's sister Melissa's house with the rest of Justin's family.  We had so much fun.  Great food, great company, great fun!  We basically just ate and played games.  We were trying to get a picture of Emme and Charlie before we put him to bed.  Emme decided it would be fun to hook his mouth.  This is so Emme.

 

We let Emme stay up to ring in the new year.  There is no way I would have been able to get her to bed with a party going on.  Plus, church was at 1pm so she could sleep in.  When the clock struck 12 we all ran outside to blow horns and bang pots and pans.

New Year's night we went up to Temple Square to see the Christmas lights.  We always go, but didn't have a chance to until the last night.  The lights were beautiful!

Christmas 2011

We got to spend Christmas with Justin's family this year.  Everyone in his family was here minus Sarah and Michael who are on missions.

 

We had a traditional cream cheese chicken dinner on Christmas Eve.  Then we acted out the nativity, watched the nativity and read from the Bible.  We also wrote a letter to Santa, burned it and scattered the ashes in the snow (a King family tradition).  Emme had a lot of fun.  I love that Justin's family has so many traditions!

We also set out cookies and milk for Santa and sugar and carrots for his reindeer.  It is fun now that she is old enough to understand Christmas better.

Santa always leave presents and stockings on the couch at Justin's house.  It was so much fun to watch Emme find her stocking.  Emme's is the one with the doll and Charlie's is the one with the bear.

 

They both got so many presents.  Here is Emme with her ABC puzzle and new baby bottles, and Charlie with his 1st toothbrush and his bear that "Santa's Elf" made for him.

Emme spent a lot of the morning shooting her Uncle Brandon's Nerf gun.  She almost always made this face when she pulled the trigger!
