Marsh Lake

Justin's family has been going to Marsh Lake (in the Uintas) almost every year since he was little.  I was lucky enough to go up the first year we were married, and now we got to bring Emme!  It's fun to see tradition carry on.

This was Emme's first real camping experience (besides an overnighter last summer).  It was so cold at night.  I had to dress Emme in 3 layers with a hat, mittens, and extra blankets.  She was such a trooper!

She loved playing in the tent trailer with her aunts.  It was a great place to pass the time when we needed to get stuff done.  She DID NOT love her first canoe ride.  She cried every time we stopped rowing.

Justin was a busy bee while we were camping as well.  He did a lot of fishing.  These were just the fish everyone caught on the first morning.  They had a lot of success the whole time we were there.

Justin also chopped a lot of firewood and built us a really nice fire the second night we were there.

We had a lot of fun on a hike next to a river down in a valley.  It sure it beautiful in the mountains!

Emme and Grandpa King finishing the hike.

We also had some wildlife encounters.  Emme liked the cows that roamed around the outside of the campgrounds.

But the most exciting encounter was with a pesky little squirrel that lived in a tree in our camp.  He was so brave!  It would jump on our picnic table and scavenge for food while we were near by.  He even "threw" pine cones at us ;)  We eventually had enough of our little pest, so we set a trap.  He didn't think very much of it at first.

We worked on the trap some more and watched all day.  We eventually got him!  Here are the guys posing next to the trap with the squirrel still inside.

The got the squirrel (who we named Jim) into a clear box so the could hold it and take pictures.  Here is Justin with the captive.  Don't worry, they let him go on the other side of the lake a few minutes later.  NO SQUIRRELS WERE HARMED! :)

We had so much fun relaxing, eating great food and enjoying nature and our family.  I can't wait to do it again next year!
